Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday visited the Khankaah Rahmani Masjid in Munger, where he was greeted by a large gathering from the minority community during his ongoing ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’.
Prominent local leaders including Md. Shahwaz Aalam, Md. Raish Aalam, Khalid Sultan Rahmani, and Md. Islam Rahmani were present at the event.
Several community members voiced strong support for All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s inclusion in the INDIA alliance, warning that excluding him could cost the opposition bloc heavily in the upcoming Bihar elections. Many of Owaisi’s supporters, also present at the gathering, stressed that if AIMIM remained outside the coalition, the minority community’s support would swing decisively towards him.
The crowd expressed resentment that despite forming nearly 20% of Bihar’s electorate, the minority community is not given adequate respect or representation within the alliance. They also criticised the bloc for giving weight to smaller vote banks, such as leaders representing just 2% of voters, while sidelining minority concerns.
Rahul Gandhi’s mosque visit came on the sixth day of the 16-day, 1,300-km-long ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’, which spans 20 districts and will conclude in Patna on September 1. The campaign seeks to raise awareness about alleged voter roll irregularities and what opposition leaders describe as “vote chori” (vote theft).
On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi along with RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav had joined the yatra in Lakhisarai to protest against the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.
The yatra marks the opposition’s latest coordinated push to highlight concerns over voter disenfranchisement and electoral transparency ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
